Context

Sun Life Insurance wanted an active brand experience using dragon boat culture. We modified existing KayakPro dragon boat machines and connected them to an AR game system, allowing visitors to see themselves inside the game while rowing.

Challenge

The physical rowing motion needed to feel directly connected to the on-screen game. Player movement, camera capture, scoring, visual feedback, and machine response all had to stay smooth, readable, and engaging in a public event setting.

Approach

We added motion sensors to the rowing machines, calibrated the player input, and connected the hardware to a live AR game interface. The setup combined physical rowing, real-time camera capture, graphic overlays, game scoring, and side-by-side competition.

Impact

The experience turned a fitness machine into an interactive brand attraction. Visitors could compete, see themselves inside the game, and understand the campaign message through physical play rather than passive viewing.
