Arome Bakery wanted to explain the craftsmanship and ingredient structure of its matcha cake while presenting the complete product. Traditional displays often use a dummy cake or exposed cross-section, but these methods separate the explanation from the real product. The installation therefore needed to preserve the cake’s full form while helping customers understand its internal layers, including matcha cream, sponge cake, red beans, mousse, sesame paste, and agar.
The holographic overlay had to align precisely with the real cake while remaining bright and readable against the physical product. The enclosure also needed to match the cake’s scale, viewing height, and retail footprint. Reflections, image depth, contrast, and the relative visibility of the cake and projected ingredients required careful adjustment so the digital cross-section felt integrated rather than placed in front of the product
We developed the concept, storyboard, animation, and a custom single-side hologram showcase sized specifically for the cake. The content transitioned from the complete product to a virtual cross-section, identifying each internal ingredient layer. Because the enclosure was produced in-house, its dimensions, optics, lighting, and viewing angle could be calibrated together, allowing the holographic content to register accurately with the real cake.
The final display replaced the need for a cutaway dummy while keeping the complete cake at the centre of the presentation. Customers could view the physical product and simultaneously understand its ingredients, construction, and craftsmanship through the holographic overlay. The result created a more direct product story, combining an appetising presentation with a clear visual explanation of what was inside.
